Should I Wait Around?

Dear Jean,

I am working for someone I specifically quit a job for.  My official status is “temp-to-hire.”  My boss’s personal life has become complicated and he has decided not to hire me full-time right now.  There are also other things that he promised in the beginning that he keeps changing.  I don’t know if I should be concerned about this, or if I should be patient with him and wait for things to work out.

The reason it is called “temp-to-hire” is because it is a temporary position and there is no guarantee of a full-time position.  He mostly likely knew when he requested a temporary that the job might not turn full-time for a while.

Play this by ear.  If you have a better job to go to, give notice to your temporary service and go.  If not, call the temporary service for which you work to get feedback.  Hopefully they will be able to advise you on what to do.
